  3.      A. E. is an excellent shoot down
  4. the aliens arcade game.  It also was a
  5. game that reminded me that every now
  6. and then it helps to read the
  7. literature which comes with even the
  8. games that one buys.  As I slipped the
  9. disk into the drive, I thought another
  10. typical shoot-em up I can handle that
  11. without looking at instructions.  So
  12. I booted her up and began to play.
  13. For some unknown reason, I couldn't
  14. determine how to make my projectiles
  15. destroy the aliens.  One time they
  16. would fall short and the next time
  17. they would go too far.  Finally,
  18. after almost giving up, I consulted
  19. the documentation (when all else
  20. fails, right.)  There before my very
  21. eyes was the solution to my problem,
  22. the bombs are launched by pressing a
  23. paddle button and are detonated by
  24. releasing the button.  With this
  25. minor part behind me, I returned to
  26. the fray.  The mission here is a
  27. familar one; destroy the aliens to
  28. make the universe safe for humanity.
  29. If any real visitors from other
  30. planets ever decide to visit, I hope
  31. we give them a more cordial reception.
  32. This game has several different levels
  33. and at each level the rays (aliens)
  34. become harder to destroy.  The player
  35. must successfully destroy three waves
  36. before advancing to the next level.
  37. This means killing all of the rays in
  38. the wave.  Of course, points are given
  39. for each ray destroyed.  The player
  40. receives 3 battle stations to begin
  41. with and can add another through
  42. progression to a certain level.
  43.      This game is from Broderbund
  44. and retails for $29.95.  The graphics
  45. are 3-D and are excellently done.
  46. If you are an arcade player who likes
  47. the shoot-em down variety, I advise
  48. you seriously consider adding this
  49. game to collection.
